Miles Davis Poem

This Poem of mine will be published
in Main Street Rag Magazine next spring

Miles

Your nights are quiet fire
Cracked note genius
Tears running down
Horns bell  (muted harmon)
Herbie and Keith
Pumping electric pianos
Behind you
All the percussion
In the world is
Electric Heaven
Fine clothes and women
Fast cars
Say anything-Any time!
Angry sometimes
Make peace with life
An original
An iconoclast
Miles of joy
Long, graceful notes
Chords heard
Through the distant drums…

Robert Silverman

I am a jazz pianist, trumpeter, and composer living in the Bronx, NY. My recent album (2011), Fractured Time, recently won the BRIO grant in the Bronx for best composer for the title track. I also have 6 CDs available on iTunes and create mostly original songs for each album.  I was also recently written up in the New York Daily News for my jazz work with the elderly. The article was written by Greg Thomas and came out in November of 2012. I am a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where I studied with Jaki Byard, George Russell, Fred Hersh, Charles Schleuter, Jimmy Guiffre, and Ran Blake. I did graduate work at Queens College with Jimmy Heath and Donald Byrd. I was also mentored by Jackie McLean at Hartt College of Music in Hartford, Connecticut. I am currently working on a new vocal project to be released soon.

I also teach privately and give classes in jazz history for the elderly and young people. I will be playing a concert at the 92nd street Y at 2:00 PM on Friday May, 31st in the senior center. Also, I will be playing solo piano at Indian Road Cafe, 600 West 218th street on Friday, June 7th at 8:00 PM. On Wednesday, June 5th, I'll be receiving the BRIO Grant for composing at Hostos Community College at 149th and Grand Concourse in the Bronx.

This is me live at St. Paul's Chapel at Columbia University last year, playing John Coltrane's Naima on flugelhorn and piano.
